Abstract: 1:12,000 to 1:24,000
SSURGO map. Polygon boundaries of soils in Volusia County, downloaded from
the National
Cooperative Soil Survey. The NCRS publication date of the survey is 9/13/2018. SSURGO spatial data duplicates the
original soil survey maps. This level
of mapping is designed for use by landowners and townships and for
county-based natural resource planning and management. The original mapping scales generally ranged from
1:12,000 to 1:63,360. The original
maps from soil survey manuscripts were recompiled to scales of 1:12,000 or
1:24,000 for digitizing into the SSURGO format. SSURGO is the most detailed level of soil mapping published
by the National Cooperative Soil Survey. The information was prepared by
digitizing maps, by compiling information onto a planimetric
correct base and digitizing, or by revising digitized maps using remotely
sensed and other information. SSURGO depicts information about the
kinds and distribution of soils on the landscape. The soil map and data used
in the SSURGO product were prepared by soil scientists. This data set is not
designed for use as a primary regulatory tool in permitting or citing
decisions, but may be used as a reference source. The attribute table for this layer has
been modified to contain information collected from multiple NCRS tabular
reports. |

LEGEND
|

THE LEGEND IS
NUMERIC. SOIL NAMES FOLLOWED BY THE SUPERSCRIPT 1/ ARE BROADLY DEFINED UNITS.
THE COMPOSITION OF THESE UNITS IS MORE VARIABLE THAN THAT OF THE OTHER UNITS
IN THE SURVEY AREA, BUT HAS BEEN CONTROLLED WELL ENOUGH TO BE INTERPRETED FOR
THE EXPECTED USE OF THE SOILS. SOILS WITHOUT A SLOPE DESIGNATION IN THE NAME
ARE THOSE THAT OCCUR ONLY ON NEARLY LEVEL LANDSCAPES. |

SOIL GROUP CODES |
|
A |
High
infiltration rates and low runoff. Soils consist of deep, well drained sands
or gravelly sands and have a high rate of water transmission. |
A/D |
High
infiltration rate and low runoff if drained. Very slow
infiltration rate
and high runoff potential if in natural, undrained condition. |
B/D |
Moderate
infiltration rate if drained. Very slow infiltration rate and high runoff
potential if in natural, undrained condition. |
C/D |
Slow
infiltration rate if drained. Very slow infiltration rate and high runoff
potential if in natural, undrained condition. |
D |
Very slow
infiltration rate and high runoff potential. This group is composed of clays
that have a high shrink-swell potential, soils with a high water table, soils
that have a claypan or clay layer at or near the
surface, and soils that are shallow over nearly impervious material. These
soils have a very slow rate of water transmission. |
