Abstract: This data set is one component of a digital terrain model (DTM) developed for Volusia County, Florida in 2006 under contract number RSQ 06-SQ-06RB, project number P5409, Professional Consuting Services for LiDAR Surveys, Digital Topographic Data and Digital Orthophotography. As part of the 2006 Task Assignment 1, LiDAR and digtial color imagery data was acquired across the county, +/-1,427 square miles. The digital imagery was used to develop orthophotos over the entire county, and it was used to support DTM development (QC of LiDAR data and breakline compilation) over 3 drainage basins: Spruce Creek, Deland Ridge and Deep Creek Closed, totaling 361 county grid tiles at 5,000' by 5,000' or 323.7 square miles. The LiDAR data was used to develop a DEM for orthophoto rectification purposes only, and it was used to support DTM development. The Volusia_Contours_FY2006 dataset is comprised of 1-foot contours developed from a TIN generated from the 2006 DTM. The DTM was comprised of LiDAR mass points (Volusia_LiDAR_FY2006) and breaklines (Volusia_Breaklines_FY2006). All map data was delivered in the ESRI ArcGIS personal geodatabase format based on the county 5,000' by 5,000' grid tile system. In accordance with the 2006 Volusia County Topographic Database Design, the following breakline features are contained within the database: closed water bodies (lakes, reservoirs, etc) as 3-D polygons; linear hydrographic features (streams, canals, swales, embankments, etc) as 3-D breaklines; coastal shorelines as 3-D linear features; edge of pavement road features as 3-D breakines; soft features (ridges, valleys, etc.) as 3-D breaklines; overpasses and bridges as 3-D breaklines; and island features as 3-D polygons. Breakline features were captured to develop a hydrologically correct DTM. Contours (1-foot) were created from a TIN generated from the DTM that meet the National Map Accuracy Standards for 2-foot contours (FEMA specifications). Bare earth LiDAR masspoint data display a vertical accuracy of at least 0.3-feet root mean square error (RMSE) in open unobscured areas.
